Text of Sen. John McCain's RNC Speech

I'm not a super big support of McCain, but this speech raised his stock in my eyes. It contains a fabulous blast against Mr. M. Moore, upon wish he was wisked out of the convention hall under heavy security. Priceless. Text of Sen. John McCain's RNC Speech

MSNBC - Economic report

What seems a boon of geopolitical information these days....check this out. The article says that poverty is on the rise, but if you look at the table nested in the article, it shows that the current poverty rate is lower than most of the 90s.
Presidents don't usually do much for the economy....changes now don't show up that quickly. Its all silliness.

Economic data: "Seattle was the best-educated city, with 51.6 percent of adults holding college degrees, and 93.4 percent having at least graduated high school.
Residents of New York City had the longest commute at an average 38 minutes each way.
In Dade County, Fla., home to Miami, half the population was born outside the United States, compared with 0.8 percent in Westmoreland County, Pa., which ranked last in the category.
The most expensive housing is in California, which has 13 of the top 15 counties in the nation by median home value. At the top is San Mateo County, near San Francisco, with a median home value of $664,000."

Road Runner

The big talk in programming is RIA -- rich user interfaces. The thinking is that now that a large enough portion of the population has broadband, either at work or at home, that we can now feel free to use flash essentially everywhere. Its amazing how dominant flash is in the new world of open source. For what its worth, a nice portal with RIA:Road Runner

CNN/Money: Best places to live

Here, as promised, is the latest list of new places to live. Plano, TX gets the nod for best place, but Virginia tacks on towns in the top 10. None, interestingly, in either Washington or on Long Island. sigh..... .CNN/Money: Best places to live

MSN Money - Forbes: The best places to die

We've all heard of the lists of best places to live. Forbes now has one for death. Who wins? Utah, Oregon, and Delaware, but don't die in Jersey, Illinois or worst, DC. MSN Money - Forbes: The best places to die1

Get away from the Coastal Madness!

As you've read in my blog here, I just recently moved back to LI, NY to be with family. However I have felt all along that my move here may be impossilbe to make long term due to the amazingly expensive property, or the amazingly high taxes, or the grueling commutes. Its simply obviously not a great place to live. So argues this book, Life 2. o. http://www.forbes.com/2004/07/27/cz_rk_0727karlgaard_print.html

Check out this quote:
"A sustained poor or flat stock market is what will trigger the professional middle-class flight out of cities and suburbs. The logic is easy to understand. We will suffer with a small house, a hefty mortgage and a grinding commute if we think by these sacrifices we can retire by age 55, thanks to our rapidly appreciating house and retirement portfolio. But take away double-digit annual appreciation of our two biggest assets and throw in worries about retirement, and we begin to feel like slaves. "

Exactly.

Nevertheless, I'll stick it out for some time and see where I am in a year or two, and where the housing prices are. I in no way regret the move! My job is going well, and I'm reuniting with my family in a way that 10 vacations wouldn't perform. I've gotten to see my mother, all my nieces and nephews, and old friends in their real day to day lives. I've seen the generosity of my whole family, from my sisters to their husbands. Its a good but stressful period in my life. But I seek freedom.

Victor Davis Hanson on Bush Hatred on National Review Online

National Review has a great exposition on why the rabid, drooling left hates George W. I've appreciated Victor Davis Hanson's work for some time, and this is right on the mark.
