Well, its been a while since an update has happened. So what's going on ?

Gay marriage -- BIG deal to a lot of people, but its clear that in an election year the extremes of both parties are using the issue for gaining political capital. The left started it this time, taking up an issue that they know divides conservative Christians from secular conservatives by taking a page from the division its caused in American churches.

However, I don't think its going to work and may unwittingly hand the '04 election to Bush. There is no way the hard right is going to stay home whilst Rosie's smooching in San Fran. Mom and pop are going to see that as cultural decline, and mom and pop vote. In droves.

It seems to be a silly thing to make such a big stink over. "Who cares?" was my initial opinion on it. Yet, I know what the forces are behind the scenes. This is another pawn in the cultural battle that is taking place. Even if uncoordinated, Mom and Pop in Middle America are going to tie this right to the SuperBowl flak and the 10 Commandments being removed from the Courthouse.

The sad thing is that gay couples live in peace all over this country. This push by the elite gay movement, not the millions of gays who are happy the way it is. The elites are trying to force a change in human nature, a change that I do not believe has ever or can EVER take place anywhere in the world: equivocation of homosexuality with heterosexuality. There is a reason many are revolted by gay relationships. Our genes, our very makeup, tells us that its wrong because for those in hetero land are supposed to find women attractive, not men. Its as much in our makeup to be offended as it is in their makeup to be gay in the first place. So while the liberation of women and minorities was something that has enjoyed universal acceptance, the homosexual agenda is going to run aground. It is not in human capacity to equate hetero relationships with gay ones. A strange human nature side note: I cannot understand is why lesbian relationships carry far less revulsion, even Michael Medved said as much. Indeed, there is an element of excitement that I think many men admit too and it is certainly is prevalent in the media e.g. Brittany & Madonna. What evolutionary remnant is that ?

But back to politics. Mom & pop are going to vote against this -- its a dead end for the Left on this one, and could turn indifferent people into active anti-gay crusaders. The tragic thing is that there is a human element here. There are nice gay couples all over who want to be married. They feel neglected; 2nd class citizens. They can have a union, but still they feel that the culture doesn't think as highly of them as it does a hetero couple. While equivication is impossible, there are clearly options open to the State. The US Government does discriminate, and if we are to allow gay relationships we MUST allow all relationships, including polygamists, making the issue a much larger pill for the US electorate to swallow.

I am in favor, in the end, of a treaty. Create a "Civil Union" status. Then have marriage be under it , defined as man and woman, and then have partnership be another type of Civil Union for gay and lesbian couples, and then Multiple Union for Muslims, etc. This gives conservatives the word Marriage, and simultaneously removes the possibility of serious discrimination by having all unions fall under the CU class. Make no mistake, I still hold that procreative married couples are the bedrock of this nation, and as such there still should be benefits to that class that outweigh the other classes. The State must encourage its continued existence. And as such, and since Marriage is really a religious institution that the State has no right in playing, I would like the State to either stay completely out of it ( giggle) , or come up with a more contemporary system that nods to the majority yet permits the minority.
